Established in 2018, the Latin American Music Festival stands as a cultural beacon in Boston, dedicated to serving underrepresented and marginalized communities. We focus on Latin American classical and traditional Mexican music, specifically Son Jarocho. These musical traditions, born and developed post-colonization, carry profound cultural significance. By combining these two influential genres, we aim to create a homey ambiance that fosters families’ sense of safety and belonging, providing an avenue for educational enrichment.
“The Latin American Music Festival (LAMF) is an international celebration of classical repertoire by Latin American composers, enriching emerging artists through competitions, masterclasses, and performances. We champion underrepresented communities and traditional Latin American music, fostering cultural exchange since 2018. Collaborating with esteemed institutions, LAMF provides transformative musical education, both online and in person, uniting diverse communities in a shared celebration of Latin American musical heritage.”
The Latin American Music Festival (LAMF) is a dynamic international festival dedicated to celebrating and promoting the rich classical repertoire crafted by Latin American composers or those inspired by the region’s vibrant music and culture. Our mission extends beyond the concert hall; we are committed to fostering the growth of emerging artists through a comprehensive platform of competitions, masterclasses, seminars, workshops, and recitals, providing them with a transformative musical education anchored in the diversity of Latin American music. In addition to nurturing new talent, LAMF is dedicated to championing underrepresented communities and traditional Latin American music and instruments. We proudly support genres like the Traditional Son Jarocho music from Veracruz, Mexico, ensuring their continued presence and appreciation.
Since our inception in 2018, marked by the triumphant return of the legendary composer, conductor, and guitarist Leo Brouwer to Boston, LAMF has forged impactful collaborations with prestigious institutions such as the New England Conservatory, Northeastern University, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Rivers School Conservatory, the New Arts Center of Newton, and Carriage House Violins, among others. Together, we curate an exceptional faculty comprising sought-after teachers and performers, offering individual lessons, masterclasses, workshops, and engaging public performances both online and in person throughout the Greater Boston Area. LAMF is not just a festival; it’s a catalyst for musical excellence and cultural exchange, uniting diverse communities in a shared celebration of Latin American musical heritage.”
